Hire Genealogists
We are often asked whether we also offer genealogical research as a service or whether we can establish contact with a genealogist. We have access to various genealogical sources and a private collection of documents and registers. So we can certainly provide one or the other information. Especially in the field of the former eastern provinces of Germany (Pomerania, West and East Prussia), the wealth of experience is very large.
Genealogist's costs
Genealogy research is a service that requires a lot of time, patience, but also capital. Software relevant to genealogists can be very expensive for home or occasional use. In addition, many inconspicuous sources such as books or postcards are already considered antique and are therefore sold at high prices. The costs do not necessarily depend on the century from which the respective outstanding genealogical questions originate. They are much more dependent on the research region and thus on the document and information situation in the respective area.
Areas that have been particularly hard hit by wars or other disasters usually have very few documents, making it much more difficult for genealogists to present clear results.
However, the costs also depend heavily on the fees charged by the archives.
The most popular compensation model for genealogists is hourly billing. Each started hour that the genealogist uses, e.g. to search through entries in the church register, will be invoiced. Result-oriented billing models are extremely difficult, since it is often not clear whether ancestors can be researched at all on the basis of the file situation.
The genealogist documents the time, the costs and all relevant results in a dossier. This gives the customer the highest possible degree of transparency about the work of the genealogist.
Anyone who commissions a genealogist should therefore be prepared to make a certain budget available. The higher the upper limit for the fee, the more work the genealogist can invest and accordingly promise more extensive results.
Duration of genealogical research
Capable genealogists know that genealogical research requires a lot of patience and therefore regularly inform their customers about time hurdles in family research. Depending on the archive, a certificate request can take several months. It is not unusual to have to wait several weeks for an answer to “simple” email inquiries. The German agency WASt (for investigating the fate of fallen and missing persons during the world wars) states, for example, that an answer to an application “can also take significantly longer than 12 months”. Of course, faster results are also possible if the documents you are looking for are available in digital form. In this way, the genealogist can certainly collect valuable information in the archives without applying (e.g. via the databases available online). For extensive research results, however, you should allow several months of time.
Genealogist - Contact details
Our core competence remains the visualization of the results of genealogical research. In doing so, we primarily “refine” these research results.
For larger research projects, however, we are happy to put you in touch with a professional genealogist.
We therefore cordially invite you to tell us about your personal concerns:
